Switzerland
Switzerland, officially the “Swiss Confederation”, is famous for its constant neutral political status, banking, cheese, chocolate, and watch manufacturing. It is bordered by 5 countries, these are: Austria, Germany, France, Italy and Liechtenstein, and as a result is very diverse, with influences from all of its neighbours (especially in the cuisine which contains a lot of meat, dairy produce, fruit and vegetables, and bread). The Swiss Alps are famous for their good skiing opportunities.
Swiss Geography
3 regions make up the whole country: the Alps, the Mittelland and the Jura Mountains, and these are divided into ‘canton’s. There are 26 cantons, which are Aargau, Appenzell Ausser-Rhoden, Appenzell Inner-Rhoden, Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt, Bern, Fribourg, Geneve, Glarus, Graubunden, Jura, Luzern, Neuchatel, Nidwalden, Obwalden, Sankt Gallen, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Solothurn, Thurgau, Ticino, Uri, Valais, Vaud, Zug, and Zurich. Siwtzerland does not have any coastal areas, but the many mountains have formed lakes which are good for watersports. The weather is bitterly cold in winter, but warm in summer.
Swiss Language
German, French and Italian are all official languages, and Romansch is considered a semi-official language.
Most Popular City in Switzerland
Although the capital is Bern, Zurich is actually the largest and most popular city, with over 350000 inhabitants. Switzerland is home to around 8 million people.
