The Netherlands
The Netherlands is the most densely populated county in the world. It is most famous for its tulips and windmills, but renowned for its artwork, such as the graphics artist M.C. Escher, and especially the “Dutch Masters” (including Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt van Rjin and Johannes Vermeer). The country’s culture is very diverse, and its cuisine is mild in flavour, made up of a lot of potato and dairy produce. It is often called “Holland”, but is not accurate.
Netherlands Geography
The Netherlands is in the northwest of Europe and is made up for 12 provinces, these are: North Brabant, Limburg, Utrecht, Gelderland, Overijssel, Drenthe, North Holland, South Holland and Flevoland; Zeeland, Friesland, and Groningen border the North Sea. It is a very flat country, 40% of which is actually below sea-level. As a result of this, it has to be protected by artificial dikes and dunes. This also means that canals are a common method of transport throughout the Netherlands.
