Eurostar travellers can reach destinations (such as the UK, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands) via France’s easily accessible rail network. The many direct services are just one of the reasons why France is the second most popular tourist destination in Europe.
There are options for all visitors in France, from sight-seeing, entertainment and shopping, to cultural events and places of historical importance. France also has around 100 water parks and 9 national parks. The country’s cuisine is world-famous and not to be missed, other than the famous delicacies escargots and frogs’ legs (these are nonetheless served in many restaurants), there are many local and traditional dishes, especially in Paris.
French Geography
There are 25 divisions in France, which comprise of different departments; each division has up to 8 departments. Four of the divisions constituting France are not actually on the mainland- these are French Guiyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion. French weather is extremely varied due to its location, there are 4 main climates, one for each compass point: the north- similar to Britain; the south- typically ‘Mediterranean’ being hot in summer and cool in winter; the west- an ‘Oceanic/Maritime’ climate with cool summers and winters. The western climate carries across the centre and the east, which have more temperature difference.
French Language
France has several dialects, and these include: Alsatian, Corsican, Breton, Provencal, Catalan and Flemish. In the Basque region, the inhabitants speak the Basque language dually. Around 70 million people speak French as a first language, in around 25 countries including Belgium, Switzerland and Canada.

The actual capital city, Paris, is the most popular, and has around 2 million inhabitants in the City Proper; along with its suburbs and boroughs, Paris comprises a sixth of the French population.
